Inspections/Peer Reviews
Inspections are one of the three practices identified as key to improving an organizations performance by the Airlie Software Council (Risk Management and "inch pebble" project management are the other two). Inspections have been in use since 1972, and were initially publicized in Michael Fagan's 1976 IBM Systems Journal article (http://www.research.ibm.com/journal/sj/382/fagan.pdf).

One of the more difficult challenges for inspections is today's geographically distributed development teams. This course specifically addresses this challenge.

Depending on your needs, this class is offered in one and two day versions. Whether the one or two day class is offered should be determined by the organization's ability to implement new ideas, existing project management capabilities, organizational readiness to do inspections, and staff familiarity with inspections.

Moving Toward Level 4
Organizations that have achieved a CMMI® Level 4 or 5 rating have demonstrated superior performance. A summary can be found at ( http://www.sei.cmu.edu/cmmi/results.html ). There are numerous conference presentations and articles showing that thinking about the Level 4 requirements when establishing your measurement program, and planning ahead to enable the transition to Level 4, can save a year or more of elapsed time in achieving Level 4 capability. Put another way, if you don't plan properly, you delay Level 4 capability, and more importantly, the benefits of improved quality and productivity.

This course can be structured as a one-day class or a two-day workshop depending on your needs.

Root Cause Analysis
Root Cause Analysis (RCA), also known as causal analysis or defect prevention, systematically addresses the cause of defects or problems in order to eliminate the defects or problems from your development process. This class covers elements of a root cause analysis or defect prevention program, analysis techniques such as Fishbone (Ishikawa) Diagrams, Apollo and 5-Why. Both defect analysis and implementation of corrective action are covered in the class.

This class is best offered as a workshop where real problems from your organization are used in case studies.

Life Cycle Measurement
Life cycle measurement focuses on measuring your organizations development and test capability, stressing those measures that carry forward from development to test activities to post ship maintenance; thus enabling an understanding of tradeoffs you make in one activity and their impact in later activities.

This class can be tailored into 2 or 3 day workshops in software measurement depending on your needs and life cycle coverage.

Additionally, as part of ongoing measurement program support, IPS will work with your measurement specialists with your data, enabling a better understanding of your data and how to use it to improve your organizations performance.

Contact IPS at info@integratedproductivitysolutions.com for additional information about these classes. As your needs may be different than others, IPS will tailor these classes to match your needs.
